LASER DENTISTRY
Laser dentistry involves the use of laser technology for the treatment of various dental issues such as lesions in the mouth, gum disease and facial pain. The technique can also be used to perform less invasive dental surgery too. Laser dentistry is a modern, highly beneficial form of dentistry that can reduce pain, bleeding and recovery time for various dental treatments. Laser dentistry is also less harmful to the gums and teeth and requires less anaesthetic to perform. Dr Haripersad uses the Epic Laser form of treatment for oral lesions, pain therapy, gum disease and oral surgery.
Oral lesion
Oral lesions can affect the way you speak and eat by causing pain, burning and general discomfort in and around the mouth. Canker sores and cold sores are common forms of oral lesions that can be effectively treated using laser dentistry techniques. These sores can be caused by underlying factors like allergies, injuries, poor nutrition and STIs in some cases.
During treatment, Dr Haripersad will apply the Epic Laser to each sore for a few minutes. The laser will focus precise, thermal energy to each sore to promote healing. Immediate pain relief is often experienced, and the sores fully heal within a week.
Pain Therapy
Laser dentistry can also help relieve facial pain in the jaws and mouth typically caused by stiffness in the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). Pain therapy with the Epic Laser is fast and effective.
During therapy, Dr Haripersad will apply the Epic Laser to the TMJ to relax the muscles in the jaw and promote blood circulation. This process takes about 5-10 minutes to relieve jaw pain. The laser can also be used to heal infected sockets post surgery.
Gum Disease
Gum disease is a condition characterised by inflammation and bleeding in the gums. The condition is caused by a bacterial infection in the mouth that occurs due to poor oral hygiene, diabetes, hormonal changes, smoking and other factors. Gum disease can affect the overall health of your mouth and contribute to bone and tooth loss if left untreated. Some of the symptoms of gum disease include bleeding gums, receding gums and bad breath. Laser dentistry can be used to effectively treat gum disease by eliminating bacteria in your mouth.
During the procedure, Dr Haripersad will apply the Epic Laser to the affected areas of the gum to combat bacteria, bleeding, redness and pain. Laser treatment will also promote faster healing too.
Oral Surgery
Laser dentistry techniques can be used to perform less invasive forms of surgery for a number of dental conditions. Laser surgery is often less painful than open surgery and can promote faster healing and recovery time too. The Epic Laser can be used to repair receding gums and abnormal tissue connections in the mouth, including tongue or lip ties. The technique can also be used to reshape the gums and remove oral growths such as skin tags as well.
During the procedure, Dr Haripersad will apply the Epic Laser to the gums or growths in the mouth and use precision, thermal energy to conduct surgery and remove or correct tissue abnormalities. This technique generally involves less bleeding and anaesthetic, and stitches are not required afterwards.
